(1) "claimant" means a person who signs and submits a claim to the department for the payment of costs under AS 12.65.025;
(2) "commissioner" means the commissioner of health;
(3) "deceased" means the body of an individual upon which a coroner has directed that a medical examiner perform a post-mortem examination under AS 12.65;
(4) "division" means the division of public health within the Department of Health, or a division that succeeds to its duties under this chapter;
(5) "embalmer" means an embalmer licensed by the Department of Commerce, Community, and Economic Development under AS 08.42;
(6) "funeral director" means a funeral director licensed by the Department of Commerce, Community, and Economic Development under AS 08.42;
(7) "funeral establishment" means a funeral establishment that has a permit required by AS 08.42.100;
(8) "judicial officer" means a judicial officer described at AS 22.20.010 or a coroner appointed under AS 22.15.310;
(9) "medical examiner" means a medical examiner appointed by the commissioner under AS 12.65.010;
(10) "morgue" means a place that meets the requirements of 7 AAC 35.120, where human remains are kept for identification and autopsy;
(11) "person legally responsible for burial" means the personal representative of the deceased, appointed under AS 22.15.320, AS 13.16, or a similar statute of another jurisdiction; the term also includes a person otherwise legally responsible for burial.
