1. (a) An operator of a vessel fishing for groundfish in the waters of Alaska in the Eastern Gulf of Alaska Area or in a state-managed directed fishery in the waters of the exclusive economic zone adjacent to the Eastern Gulf of Alaska Area shall maintain an accurate logbook of all fishing operations for each type of gear used.

2. (b) A logbook described in (a) of this section

   1. (1) for longline and pot gear must include the permit holder's name and vessel information and

      1. (A) for each trip, the

         1. (i) target species;
         2. (ii) port of landing;
         3. (iii) date the vessel left port and the date the vessel landed;
         4. (iv) vessel's crew size; and
         5. (v) bait used and gear specification ;

      2. (B) for each set, the

         1. (i) target species;
         2. (ii) date and time the set was deployed and hauled;
         3. (iii) specific location of harvest by latitude and longitude, in degrees and decimal minutes, for the vessel's start and ending positions;
         4. (iv) hook spacing and the amount of gear, including the number of hooks, skates, or pots used, if applicable;
         5. (v) the number of skates or pots lost, if applicable;
         6. (vi) the number of skates or pots impacted by depredation, if applicable; and
         7. (vii) the depth of each set;

      3. (C) for each catch,

         1. (i) the number or estimated weight, in round pounds, of all target species retained and released at sea;
         2. (ii) the number or estimated weight, in round pounds, of the bycatch retained or released at sea; and
         3. (iii) the tag number of any tagged fish captured; and
      4. (D) other information as required by the commissioner;

   2. (2) for dinglebar troll gear, mechanical jigging machines, or hand troll gear must include the date, the specific location of harvest by latitude and longitude, in degrees and decimal minutes, and nearest headland, the number of lines and total number of hooks used, the average depth fished, the hours fished, and the number of bycatch fish taken, by species, for each unique geographic location fished; for the target species the following is required:

      1. (A) the number retained;
      2. (B) the number discarded; and
      3. (C) for lingcod only, their estimated sex ratio;
   3. (3) must be updated, within 24 hours after midnight local time on the day of operation;
   4. (4) must be retained, with its original pages, for a period of two years by the owner or operator of the vessel; and
   5. (5) must include the tag number of any tagged fish landed, with the date and specific location.
3. (c) A logbook described in (a) of this section must be kept on board the vessel while operating gear, during transits to or from a port of landing, and for five days after delivering groundfish.
4. (d) Repealed 6/15/97.
5. (e) A logbook described in (a) of this section must be made available to a local representative of the department upon request.
6. (f) A copy of the page of the logbook described in (a) in this section pertaining to a landing must be attached to the fish ticket documenting the landing.
7. (g) A person may not make a false entry in the logbook described in (a) of this section.
