Total coliform and Escherichia coli (E. coli) testing and laboratory reporting

- (a) Under 40 C.F.R. 141.858(b), adopted by reference in 18 AAC 80.010(a), the owner or operator is responsible for ensuring that the department is notified in a timely manner of a routine or repeat sample that is total coliform-positive or Escherichia coli-positive, notwithstanding the requirements under (b) of this section.
- (b) The certified laboratory performing the analysis shall report the results of a total-coliform bacteria analysis or an Escherichia coli bacteria analysis to the owner and to the department as set out in 18 AAC 80.355(b)(1) and (2). If a sample is total coliform positive, the certified laboratory shall analyze that total coliform positive culture medium to determine if Escherichia coli bacteria are present.
