Unified Carrier Registration program requirements

- (a) To own or operate a commercial motor vehicle in this state as a motor carrier or motor private carrier, or provide services as a freight forwarder, broker, or leasing company in interstate commerce, a company or individual shall register annually in the Unified Carrier Registration program established under 49 U.S.C. 14504a.
- (b) Each registration must be accompanied by a fee, the amount of which will be determined annually by the Secretary of the United States Department of Transportation under 49 U.S.C. 14504a. Registration fees for Unified Carrier Registration will be published by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration under 49 C.F.R. Part 367 (standards for registration with states). Annual fees must be paid directly through the Unified Carrier Registration National Registration System.
- (c) An enforcement officer may order that movement of a vehicle be stopped if a registrant fails to pay the fee required under (b) of this section. If a vehicle is ordered to stop movement, the driver of the vehicle shall move the vehicle to a location specified by the enforcement officer. The stop movement order remains in effect until the registrant provides proof of payment of the fees.
