- (a) In this section, "air-conditioning equipment" means mechanical vapor compression refrigeration equipment used to cool the driver or passenger compartment of a motor vehicle.
- (b) Air-conditioning equipment must be manufactured, installed, and maintained with regard for the safety of the occupants of the vehicle and the public, and may not use or contain a refrigerant toxic to persons, or flammable, explosive, corrosive or otherwise hazardous.
- (c) Manufacture, installation, maintenance and use of air-conditioning equipment will, as far as practicable, conform to the standards applicable to the equipment as approved by the Society of Automotive Engineers on the effective date of this section.
- (d) No person may drive on a highway or other vehicular way or area, equip, sell, or offer for sale, a motor vehicle equipped with air-conditioning equipment which does not meet the requirements of this section.
