(a) For the purpose of enforcing AS 30.30 and this chapter, a peace officer of the state, within the meaning given in AS 30.30.165, may
- (1) inspect a vessel believed to be abandoned or derelict;
- (2) post a written notice on the vessel as set out in AS 30.30.040(a) and (b);
- (3) post a notice of disposition on the vessel as set out in AS 30.30.045(a);
- (4) execute a warrant or other process issued by an officer or court of competent jurisdiction as set out in AS 30.30.165(b)(1); or
- (5) administer or take an oath, affirmation, or affidavit as set out in AS 30.30.165(b)(2).
(b) The authority granted by AS 30.30.010, 30.30.015, 30.30.055, 30.30.065(a), 30.30.165, and this section is permissive. Nothing in this section
- (1) requires an authorized public entity to exercise the authority; or
- (2) attaches liability to an authorized public entity that chooses not to exercise the authority.
